Washable paper is a novel low-carbon, eco-friendly material made primarily from natural plant fiber pulp. It contains no hazardous substances such as AZO dyes, and features key sustainable attributes including recyclability, natural biodegradability, and ease of reprocessing. It is also known under various trade names such as leatherette paper, washable tag paper, high-wet-strength faux-leather paper, washable kraft paper, and colored water-resistant faux-leather paper.
The material is produced mainly through an impregnation process using natural wood-pulp fibers with non-toxic pigment formulations. The finished product is available in a broad spectrum of colors, and can be custom-matched to Pantone color references, including black, kraft brown, white, brown, and others. Standard supply form is in rolls, e.g., 1500 mm width × 100 m length, with sheet-cut (flat) sizes also available upon request.
Typical caliper ranges from 0.18 mm to 0.55 mm, and can be extended up to 0.8 mm through special processing treatments.
The material is compatible with a wide range of mainstream printing and finishing processes, including offset printing, screen printing, UV printing, hot foil stamping, and embossing. It can also undergo custom treatments such as hot stamping, screen printing, embossing, colour alteration, crepe/rubbing finishing, and heat-press colour-changing effects. The substrate retains its inherent mechanical and physical properties even after processing and repeated washing. The material is inherently water-resistant—it does not degrade upon contact with water—and when subjected to washing and rubbing, it develops a distinctive aged, wrinkled aesthetic.
